General Course Info

At the Monterey Bay Institute of Electrology you will learn how to help your clients build self esteem and self assurance. The Institute provides students with high quality equipment and thorough, comprehensive instruction in the theory and practice of permanent hair removal. In addition to the Board of Barbering and Cosmetology’s health and safety rules, the Institute has incorporated Infection Control Standards for the Practice of Electrology as developed by the American Electrology Association (AEA) with assistance from the Center for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC). A total of 600 hours practical training and technical instruction is required in California to qualify for the state licensing examination. Students who wish to practice in states which do not have the mandatory 600 hours may take the 350 to 500 hour electrology course. Additional hours may be contracted by the student who needs to fulfill various licensing requirements for their state. Theory hours may easily be adjusted to meet specific state requirements. The curriculum includes all modalities – Galvanic, Multineedle, Thermolysis, and Blend methods using both the flash and manual techniques including high and low intensity Thermolysis. MBIE offers a flexible schedule: open enrollment, starting anytime, with full and part time classes offered. The 600 hour course may be completed within 19 weeks. We also provide a listing of local housing available for our students. Each student who successfully graduates will be awarded a diploma. They will also be prepared to meet the board certification requirements for obtaining their licensure as a Licensed Electrologist. MBIE does not discriminate on the basis of race, color, religion, natural origin, sex, age, or disability....

The profession is known as ELECTROLOGY; the practitioner is an ELECTROLOGIST who practices ELECTROLYSIS 1.     Electro- + -logy.] noun Branch of physical science which treats of the phenomena of electricity and its properties. 2.      [E·lec·trol·o·gist] noun One who removes body hair by means of an electric current. 3.    [Elec·trol·y·sis] noun \ i-ˌlek-ˈträ-lə-səs\ a: the producing of chemical changes by passage of an electric current through an electrolyte b: subjection to this action: the destruction of hair roots by an electrologist using direct current Electrology is the practice of the permanent hair removal. 1. What is Electrology? Electrology is the science of permanent hair removal. It is achieved by gently inserting a fine sterile probe into the hair follicle, an opening in the skin that is already there. At this time a small measured amount of electrical energy is discharged via the probe into the follicle to destroy the source of growth. When this is competently and skillfully accomplished, the regenerative ability of the hair follicle is permanently...
About Monterey

About Monterey

Current day Monterey may be famous for it’s world renowned Bay Aquarium, nearby golf resorts and tournaments, and protected Marine Sanctuary (the bay itself), but it also has quite an interesting history.  Explored by the Spanish in the 1500’s and settled in 1770 as one of the early California missions established by Father Junipero Serra, Monterey was actually the first Capital of California, prior to it’s statehood. Monterey was known for it’s fisheries up through the 1950’s and immortalized in John Steinbecks novel Cannery Row.  The area has become a well-known destination for it’s beaches, resorts, diving, and proximity to Big Sur and San Francisco.  Monterey also hosts several higher education institutions, including the California State University of Monterey Bay, the Defense Language Institute,  the Naval Postgraduate School, the Monterey Institute of International studies and others. Needless to say, Monterey has something to offer everyone,  from college to retirement. Students of MBIE love living near the beach, if even for a short time, enjoying the outdoors, nightlife, shopping, excellent dining (the local seafood is fabulous!), and excellent locally roasted coffee!  The time spent in Monterey attending MBIE is certain to be a time fondly remembered not only for the superior training, but also for it’s coveted...

History of Electrology

The removal of unwanted hair is nothing new. The art of Electrology was founded n 1875 by Dr. Charles E. Michel, an ophthalmologist who was seeking a solution to the problem of ingrown eyelashes exhibited by many of his patients. He hit upon the idea of using Galvanic current (DC) to damage the growth cells that were nourishing the hair. Thus, the Science of Electrology was born, the first and only method of permanent hair removal. Dr. Michel’s method is still used...
